Guitar Hero is an example of a game that challenges players to synchronize their actions with the beat of the music. The first game in the Guitar Hero series was released in 2005 and came with a guitar shaped controller to simulate playing the guitar to numerous songs.

With a $1 million dollar budget the game was a huge success upon its release, leading to the release of Guitar Hero II the following year. While the game was first released for the PlayStation 2, it was later redeveloped for play on other devices, including the Nintendo DS and smartphones.

A number of games have been released as part of this series with the latest being the 2015 game Guitar Hero Live, featuring a new controller with six buttons and a three fret layout. There is a career mode where players act as a lead guitarist in a band in concert.

In the game’s other mode, songs are presented with notes overlaid on top of the music video or live concert footage. Players can use credits to access any song within the music library.

There is a single player mode as well as a party mode, if playing in single player mode your score is submitted to the global leaderboard. There is a practice mode where you can alter the song’s speeds to help you get to grips with the controls.

On initial release there were 10 songs to choose from however more have become available to download in content packs and through game updates. Upon release, the game had mainly positive reviews and had sold more than four million copies by early 2021.

This game is considered a great go-to for introducing people to the possibilities of Virtual Reality and VR gaming.

Fuser

Fuser is different to many other rhythm type music video games, rather than performing actions to the beat of the music the player instead has the opportunity to create their own DJ mixes from a number of different tracks on offer.

Originally there were both single player and multiplayer modes to choose from and players could share their mixes with the wider community of Fuser players. However, since December 2022 additional content was removed from the game and only single player mode remains.

A headliner spotlight feature was introduced in 2021, through the Diamond Stage players are able to perform their own Fuser mixes in front of viewers of the dedicated Twitch channel. Viewers can also submit requests and challenge the player.

From rhythm challenges to educational content, music themed video games are a great way to enjoy your favorite tracks and immerse yourself in a new audio and visual experience.
